Will SEO Your Theme

by Justin on July 21, 2008

I’m working on making my own collection of Wordpress themes that have be optimized for search engines. I started doing this for use on my personal sites (a lot like I did with BANS), but would be more than happy to share some love while I’m at it. Since I’m doing this anyways, there is no reason others can’t benefit from it.

If you have a particular Wordpress theme you would like optimized, drop a comment and I’ll add to my list. If you use a free theme that can be shared on your site and want it optimized, let me know which you use and leave me a link where I can find it.

I have a few done now and can post up your requests as I finish them. The time frame on this will vary since I get busy some times. I’m moving in 3 weeks, so I have a lot of other things in the air, but I will work on them one at a time.

Hi Justin,

Sounds great! I’m in the midst of looking for a new theme for my “old” blog which I am planning to re-engineer. I saw one released for free by Unique Blog Designs but somehow there is conflict that crashed Wordpress. Maybe you could include this theme in your project?

I went through and SEO’d this theme, but it is having huge errors when I try to adjust its settings in Wordpress. You having this problem? It displays fine for me, but wigs out my Dashboard.

It appears that the theme has problems with the new version of Wordpress 2.6. I’m going to wait until they fix this until I look over the theme.

What about a post explaining all the changes you would make to themes to make them SEO friendly? You can give a man a fish…

I’ve been meaning to go through Court’s themes to find out what makes a theme ‘SEO’ but I work full time and it’s tough finding free time for all my little projects.

Just ask for a short post with nice anchor text in return if someone uses the guide to make their own theme SEO. I know I would be happy to give you that (if I had a relevent niche blog).

Hit it outta the park!

I made a post about what I’d be doing. I didn’t go into too many technical examples, because teaching people HTML is a whole separate thing =P
It’s not hard to do HTML though, for anyone who wants to learn.

I like NetWorker from http://antbag.com/themes/. I know very little about Optimizing a site so it would be great to have this theme as good as it could possibly be.

Will check it out paul and will let you know

Awesome Idea Justin. I shall trawl around for some themes that could be seo tweaked for the communal good.

Hi Justin,

I was wondering if you could help me SEO my blog’s template. It seems to be missing the ability to bold the keywords in my articles.

I don’t know what else I am missing in my template.
The template name is “mag-essentials”

Thanks for your help.
