What Is SEO?

SEO is the study and practice of increasing organic traffic (search engine traffic) to a website by optimizing internal and external factors, which will result in an increase of search engine rankings. This is done by organizing on site information, which helps search engines understand and crawl your site. Then, effort is made to increase your site’s presence on the web by building the number of links pointing to your site (and optimizing those links). The next result is an increase in rankings and increased visitors.

Who Needs SEO?

Every website can benefit from SEO. SEO is a great option for anyone interested in Making Money Online or just increasing traffic to your site. It will help transform an online business card type site into an active marketing tool.

Why Is SEO Important?

Most people finds sites through search engines. Search engines control much of the traffic flow on the net. Being listed (and listed well) can greatly increase the effectiveness of your website. SEO provides free long term exposure for your website.

A few stats.

In December of 2007, there were 9.6 billion searches in the US. And of those, Google held the majority of the market share. Being listed well with Google gives you access to close to 60% of that search volume! The major search engines are: Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask, AOL. Although, as an SEO, your main concern will be on Google and some what Yahoo. Here is a quick graph showing the search engine market share.
