Can I Do SEO?
June 5, 2008 By: Justin | 2 commentsI’ve had some difficulties proving myself recently. I’ve had some question my ability or my knowledge on SEO. I’ve designed sites for a while, but I am fairly new to SEO compared to some, but I’ve learned a ton in my short time. I want to show you the stats from my first niche site. This is a site I run. It’s a cross b/t a niche site and flagship blog. I update it a few times a week and it makes me decent money (It made $65 today, and I’ve only posted once in the past week)
How Much Traffic Does ItGet?

It is hitting about 3,500 visitors a day now! That drop in traffic you see is due to me having to shut down parts of it for two days to do some work. You see that the traffic went right back to normal afterwards!
This is my first site I did for SEO purposes. I spent a long time just reading and learning before I launched my first site to market. The most important thing I learned about this site is keyword research. The reason I get the traffic I do is because I discovered a SWEET niche. It’s hard to monetize, but I get a fair bit of volume.
What is the Traffic Quality?
Well this is a funny question. The site isn’t an Adsense site where I want people to click out. I have a good bit of feed readers and hundreds of return visitors. So, it’s good traffic to me. Here are some more traffic stats.

I think that’s pretty good.
Where Do I Get The Traffic?
I’ve used a variety of marketing methods. I’ve worked SEO of course, but I also used link exchanges, traffic trading, and social media. When I launched the site I used some leverage I had in a forum community to jump start the traffic. I was in sandbox for a while, so I worked social media. The extreme growth towards the end of the graph is my site coming out of sandbox. I used my reputation in some communities to help build the links and drive traffic. I haven’t done any promoting for it in over a month though. I just update here and there. I was waiting for it to get out of sandbox. Here is a graph to show you where I get my traffic.

I get a lot of traffic from search engines more recently, but I used social media and link exchanges early on.
How About the Search Traffic?
The search engine traffic is how you’d expect. Google leads and it falls off after that. You can see it here.

I get a good bit of traffic from Google. It’s increasing a lot right now, because the site was sandboxed for a while.
Want to Learn?
So I feel… yes, I can SEO.
Be sure to stick around, check out my post and lessons. I’ll be sharing everything I know here over the course of the next several months. I’ll keep you updated with things I learn and find out.
