Geotagging, Local Search, & SEO?

I don’t think there is any doubt that Google is moving toward both localized and personalized search. They’re getting more accurate and sophisticated. Recently I made a post about the power of a local listening, and how it can be used to gain prime real estate in the search results. Its no secret I’m targeting local search terms related to Nashville SEO and Internet Marketing Nashville. I’m always looking for new way to improve this.

Well, I’m going to play around with Geo Tagging my pages. I don’t know what effect this will have. I’ve used Geotags before, but at that time I wasn’t into SEO. And I can’t find many posts about the SEO benefit these tags have, so I’m going to give them a try. I don’t see how it could hurt.

What Are Geo Tags?

Geo Tags are meta tags that include location information such as your longitude and latitude. This information can be used to define a very accurate geographical location for your site and business. Not only will a search engine, or other program, know I’m in Nashville, they’ll know I’m in Donelson close to Opryland.

I have no idea if Google uses this information, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they at least record it. They save XFN information and track it. I’m going to go ahead and use them in hopes they help, well see.
