Article Marketer Comments
August 23, 2008 By: Justin | 38 commentsHey guys, finally getting around to making a post after the move. I’m going to give video blogging a try. Let me know what you think. Should I keep with video or go back to writing posts. This video is a response to the comments about the article marketing post (about Article Marketer) and the anchoring like a newbie post.
In the video I mention Article Marketer, which is a paid service that will distribute your articles for you. Its a great method of generating one way anchored back links for long tail niches or specific posts on your blogs. I’ve used it for over a month, and I’ve had great luck with it. I also talk about Article Submitter, which people can use as an alternative. Both are nice options to help you automate your link building.
I also briefly mention my last post about anchoring your links like a newbie.
Lastly, I talked about targeting your post for search engines. I suggest that you check out my post about writing for search engines. It will help you when you’re writing your articles. The key is to target the article at the keyword(s) you are anchoring in the resource box. This way the post is related. Related links pass more link juice, which you can learn more about in my Links and PR basics post.

Nice. I prefer videos to articles. With videos you can translate more information in a more elaborate way and in a shorter time.
BTW, Did you put on weight? You seem slimmer in your videos over at Blogging Zombie. LOL.
lol, hey costa
I’m a different just than blogging zombie, he is much skinner =P
But to be honest, I did put on weight, but none in the recent months. I’m about 60 lbs heavier than I should be, gained a bunch of weight last year during some hard times in my personal life. Currently in the process of dropping that weight.
But BloggingZombie is another Justin. =P
I’ll keep with the videos though. As long as you guys don’t get annoyed with my southern accent. (I’m from TN)
Ditto, liking the videos better, that way we’re not tied to the page and we can do other stuff while listening :)
yea, I enjoy that with vic’s site. I think I might do a little bit of both. I still want to throw in some text posts for rankings and SEO purposes.
Great video Justin, you’ve talked me into getting article marketer. Congratulations with your new apt and all of your success.
Thanks so much Emma. I’m loving the new place, was just a pain getting moved in.
Aw Shucks!! Dumdfuck me!! I got you 2 zombies mixed up. BOY!! Do I feel like sticking my head in a shit hole now.
A Thousand Apologies, Mate. No more mix ups. I promise!
#gotta go looking for a shithole now….#
lol, its no problem Costa, it happens constantly
Hm, if it’s only 20 or 50 like you said, then how come the other 950 directories do not count? I wonder how many links you actually get with AM to the URL you point the backlinks?
I want to join AM but am reluctant. It’s because some people advised me to join Jetsubmitter and out of promised 550 directories they submit only to 80. All others have errors on them, are expired domains or have other problems that you, as a user, can’t influence on.
Well it submits to over 1000. The reason that number is skewed is because:
**Not all are dofollow. Some are nofollow, so they carry no link weight.
**Articles aren’t always the greatest quality links. So sometimes Yahoo and Google does not count them.
**There is the duplicate content thing. This submits the same article to 1000 sites. Thats 1000 pages of duplicate content. So some gets discounted.
**Each directory has their own acceptance process. A directory might reject your article or take forever to accept it. I’ve had directories accept articles weeks after I submitted.
**Lastly, Google and Yahoo doesn’t count all links. They don’t show all links. The 10 to 50 number I stated are the number of links showing in Yahoo.
Hey Justin,
Good video. I agree with Vic (from his latest vid) in that now that I have heard several people I trust endorse it, I will have to get around to subscribing to Article Marketer.
If you’re uncomfortable doing straight video, you could do screencasts. You don’t have to be demonstrating anything. You could just have your talking points up in a powerpoint presentation.
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/08/19/screencasting-how-to-start/
That article doesn’t have anything groundbreaking in it, but it does showcase a couple of Mac screencasting programs. Hope that helps!
Yeah, I’ve tried some screencast, but from some reason I get nasty lag with the sound. The sound gets behind the video and it gets confusing when people watch it. I’m going to tweak around and see if I can get Camtasia to work better.
Hey Justin, thanks for the video, I have been using AM for a while and I must say that I have found them to work just fine although the process can be slow at times. Also I usually get more links over a few weeks than you had indicated so for the money it is good for me.
Yeah, they do get slow at times. Some times its super fast, other times it takes a few days. Either way though, I just submit and don’t worry about it. I just check back in a few days to see if it all went through.
Good video Justin. And I like sarcasm by the way, so you should leave that in :D, but seriously good video. And congrats on the new crib.
Will
Thanks Will
I’ll see how well I can communicate the sarcasm via video, because its a little odd talking shit to your computer.
Thanks for the video. Keep them coming. The video combined with the written description really helps if I ever need to come back and remember the points you’re making. And don’t loose the sarcasm. You’re giving out great info, and you should be able to have some fun with.
Thanks!
I think I might timestamp information, so people know exactly when I talk about what.
I’m with the guys above. Don’t lose the sarcasm!
I think that was pretty good for your first vid, man. :)
Also, for me personally, I’d actually visit more often if there’s regular video. I can keep working on what I’m doing while simultaneously gaining knowledge from video on my second monitor. :)
Looking forward to more.
Cheers!
Jay
Hey Justin,
I vote yes for vlogging…sounds good, and I can get links while I am listening to you talk about getting links.
I appreciate the update on Article Marketer. I am not going to use the service at this point. I am using lots of pen names so my network is not linked anywhere and am not willing to quit doing that just to use Article Marketer. I have the paid version of Article Submitter for right now. With pen names I cannot use the autosubmit button. Still, it does speed up the article submission process.
I am also too paranoid to use an article submission service. I just don’t want to give my domain names away to strangers. I just think it might come back to bite me.
Congratulations on your new digs and for your increasing income!
Thanks!
Yeah, I totally understand. I had the same hold backs. I’m making effort to build some legit networks though and pull away from too much blatant black/gray hat. I enjoy it and it makes money, but I want to do this long term so I want to develop a couple of sites that will stand the test of time and I won’t have to worry about getting slapped or reported.
I still use other methods of submissions for sites I hide.
I actually thought that the video was great. You’re very easy to understand, clear, and you came across as very natural (not awkward). Good job! I hope you continue to do video blogs, as Vic said, it’s the future of blogging (I came because he spoke about and linked to you, which I’m glad he did). So I subscribed and am looking forward to really start moving forward with all of the advice and knowledge that you, vic, grizz, etc, have been putting forth freely for us noobs…lol. God bless!
Thanks so much
Yeah I can see the potential of video blogging. Its really great because you really get to know the blogger. I feel more comfortable with a blogger when I can see them.
Plus video gets a nice little boost in rankings.
Hey Justin,
Good post. Hey, you got Jedi ranking from Vic! Awesome.
I too, just started with ARticle marketer about 1 month ago, and I like it very much for the same reason that you can submit and run.
What I’ve done now is put 2 article submissions into my routine, and Im seeing lots of them getting accepted….now I need to see them help my organic rankings.
PS-What video camera are you using? The quality is super clear…and based on what Vic says…video is the new frontier, I’m going to give it a look…
Thanks
Matt
hey matt
Thanks so much. Yeah I was really excited when I saw the video from Vic. I’m doing well these days, but I still consider myself a newbie =P I still learn new stuff constantly.
Yeah I really like AM. I just do 2 to 3 when I start up a site. I also use it to link build for individual posts on this site. It helps a good bit.
I have a Macbook. I simply use the default built in camera that comes with all Macbooks. Its really easy and simple to do movies with Mac.
I really appreciate what you do but I have to say I much prefer a written post rather than video.
If it is written down I can scan it quickly, get what I need etc.
Also later it is easier to go back to to get some info, can’t really do that in video - search sucks for video.
This 12 minute video, I have to play it for 12 minutes to get the goods but reading it would only take a few minutes plus I can go over parts again and again if I don’t understand a sentence.
I hope I don’t sound negative, it’s just my thoughts.
Yeah, I totally understand. Both have positives and negatives =(
I think I might do some timestamped summaries. So I can tell you at what points certain information appears.
One big perk for me is it is much easier and quicker for me to do video. I can just record and go. With writing, it takes me forever.
I beleive you when you say video is easier, I am not a big fan of writing myself but timestamp may be the way to go. Some non video posts occasionaly would be good though.
cheers from Australia,
Paul (Coaster)
Justin, you did a really awesome job with this vid. I agree you should keep at it. I like the way you remembered to place the links to the sites you mentioned underneath the post as well.
Congratulations on the new digs and on your promotion to Jedi status ;-)
BTW, your accent is fine.
Thank so much =P
Yeah, I have a tad bit of a southern accent. Depending on the words I use, it comes out really bad.
I’m from TN and went to school in southern GA for two years. My accent got pretty bad after that.
Great Start Justin.
Look forward to the next One.
I learned about you from Vic and I must say that the information on your site is great. Thanks for keeping up the tradition of providing quality information for free!
I just learned about this free article spinner tool and was wondering if you’d heard about it and your thoughts if any. I am not affiliated in any way with the company, I’m just looking for advice.
Here is the link: http://www.jetsubmitter.com/
Thanks in advance for any info / advice.
I’ve seen a lot of talk about it, but I haven’t used it. If I get some free time I’ll check it out.
I don’t want to give bad advice, so for now I hold back any recommendations on it until I get a chance.
Hey Justin,
Followed you from Vic’s site. Went through your archives and I hafta say that you do some very informative posting. No regurjitated bullshit. Thanks for that. There are 4 guys I get my marketting/seo fill from…
Vic
Court
Griz
Justin (bloggingzombie)
…after going through your archives I think you will soon be the next addition to that list.
Just wanted to share my 2 cents about video posting. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of the whole video posting. At least, not for your type of blog (or vic’s). Like Vic’s site, I would come to your site for the valuable information that you provide. For the amount of information you provide in a 12 minute video; I could probably have read the same information in a couple minutes. If all 5 bloggers that I mentioned up top did daily video posting: it would take me over an hour just to get the information I would have read in 15 minutes.
Now, would it deter me from coming back if you did video posting from now on? Nope. Because, like Vic, it’s worth it for me to sit through the videos knowing I will most likely learn something new.
I think what I’ll do is mix it up. I still want to have some solid text posts for ranking certain keywords. Then I might include more detailed descriptions after the videos. Maybe with a timestamped summary to let you know where I talk about certain topics
Justin, I think timestamped summaries is excellent. That would be extra work on your part. But I know I would be more apt to hang around at your site if you did those kinds of summaries. In fact, you could pay somebody to do those for you, correct? Or is there technology out there somewhere that does this already? Or is this auto timestamped summaries a nice little program that needs developing?
But can we fast forward the vlogs? And go back a tad to hear a sentence or two repeated on the spot?
Keep up the good work. Appreciate the info.
Diane
I signed up with article marketer, and you where right they are picky about everything. Question they said my links at the bottom look like one long link, so I place each of them on their own line. Well, this be acceptable to them?
